Once again we had entries in White Rock’s Torchlight Parade which runs every BC Day weekend. This year it took place on Saturday Aug 1st. The parade starts once it’s dark, around 9:30.

Our House of Horrors entry consisted of a black Cadillac hearse of some vintage (which we own) with a wild, rabid wolf perched atop. In his teeth the wolf was holding the reins to the Cinderella type carriage being pulled behind. On top of the carriage is a 9 foot spider. Inside the carriage is the not so beautiful Zombie Bride. Her Zombie husband is walking alongside. This entry won Best Commercial Entry.

Incidentally, we purchased this carriage a few years ago. It was originally built for the Pasadena Rosebowl Parade back in the 60′s. That year it carried the Rose Bowl Queen complete with a driver and two coachmen standing on the back. It was covered with thousands upon thousands of fresh roses and was pulled by a team of eight horses. Reputed to have cost over $100,000 to put together it took first place and set a record for the most expensive float ever made. A record that has yet to be broken.

Just ahead of the House of Horrors Hearse was our Christmas Store S-Cargo with Santa and in his sleigh in tow. Alongside were Santa’s Elves giving out Christmas treats for all the kids along the parade route. Both Santa and the candies were a big hit with the kids. This entry won 3rd for Best Lighting. It was so bright I had to change my camera settings in order to get a (sort of) decent shot. It also won Grand Overall Winner for the entire parade. Considering the competition came from all over B.C. we are delighted to win these awards. Congratulations to each of the Potters staff who volunteered their time to put these great entries together. Haven’t a clue how you could top these…
