    Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Have you heard of wallflowers?  No, not Bob Dylan’s son’s band… I mean Erysimum!  We just got in some “bowles mauve” and boy are they nice.  Dainty little masses of purple flowers on an evergreen perennial.  The tag says it blooms all summer, and judging by how many people have asked me for that particular [...]

We just got in some orchid begonias planted up in hanging baskets. They are the most delicate blooms, almost serrated on the edges. The baskets are a black ornate wire with a coco mat liner. All the Jackson and Perkins roses are coming in to bud and bloom out in the nursery.  Gorgeous reds, yellows and whites.  It’s hard not to take one home with me.  The one that is fully blooming right now is “fragrant cloud” – and it lives up to it’s name.  Come on by and smell [...]

    Potters Garden Centre Blooming Vines

    Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Right now my favorite vine is blooming… Wisteria. There are different colours (blue, purple, and white) and some are fragrant. This is something that I learned this year… the fragrant varieties are Wisteria Sinensis. People get these mixed up with Laburnum trees (Goldenchain trees) but the difference is Laburnums have a yellow bloom. VanDusen Gardens [...]

Salvia Hot Lips As I was going through the perennial section helping someone I noticed this really cool plant… Salvia ‘Hot Lips’. This perennial produces red and white bi-coloured flowers and grows 3′ X 3′. Check out a photo

    BC Garden Hot Spot

    Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Looking for an annual for a hot, sunny (and dry) spot on your patio? I have found that Portulaca fits the bill for this spot wonderfully. It has oblong succulent-type leaves and a pretty rose flower making it a bright addition to a drought tolerant container. In fact there are many wonderful drought-tolerant annuals that [...]

    BC Garden Centre DRAGONS!

    Saturday, June 21st, 2008

A couple of weeks ago we got in this skid of boxes… I hear Cam yelling like a young boy, “My dragons are here!” and all I can think is, “Oh man…. here we go with Halloween!” It’s like he can read my mind sometimes because he goes, “These aren’t for Halloween they are for [...]
